Mychal’s is pleased to welcome Mary Rios, an advocate from DISABILITY RIGHTS CALIFORNIA who will provide information about DRC’s services.  This pertains to ALL AGES and anyone with a disability.  The goal is to raise awareness about resources, rights to services, help with self-empowerment and asserting the rights for those in the community with a disability.  Mary will be ready for your questions.

Marmalade Fundraiser 12/16/11

Marmalade Cafe in Plaza El Segundo is supporting Mychal’s Learning Place on Friday, December 16th, 2011. Marmalade will donate 15% of their profits from the entire day to Mychal’s for every customer that brings in a special flyer.  Marmalade is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (7:30am – 10:00pm) and along with their fabulous menu, there is a wonderful ambience filled with antiques and artifacts from all over the United States. Just print this flyer and give it to your server.

Chili’s Day: November 8, 2011

Chili’s Restaurant is supporting Mychal’s Learning Place on Tuesday, November 8th.  Treat yourself and your family and friends out for lunch or dinner and help support Mychal’s!  The Chili’s located in the Manhattan Beach Village Mall will donate 15% of their profits from 11am – 11pm.

Just print out this flyer below and give to your server so we get the credit.  Chili’s has fantastic burgers, ribs, salads and decadent desserts! Down syndrome 101:  Mychal’s Learning Place is excited for our next seminar that will take place in our new Hawthorne building on Thursday, November 17th at 6:30pm. What is Down syndrome? How does it affect the human body? What’s on the horizon for people with Down syndrome through research? What kinds of services are available for people with Down syndrome and their families?  Come and hear what the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles has to say from Director Gail Williamson, who is also the mother of a 32 year old son with Down syndrome.  This is a FREE seminar, but please RSVP so we know how many people to expect.

Epilepsy 101:  Mychal’s Learning Place is excited for our next seminar that will take place in our new Hawthorne building on Thursday, October 20th at 6:30pm.  A representative from The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles will be here.  The purpose is to educate about seizure recognition, seizure first aid and a basic understanding of epilepsy.  We think it’s very important for families to be advocates, so if you or someone you know has epilepsy,  this seminar will help answer any questions you may have.  This is a FREE seminar, but please RSVP so we know how many people to expect.

Our new building in Hawthorne is open!

On Monday, June 20, 2011, Mychal’s Learning Place opened it’s doors to the new building located at 4901 W. Rosecrans Ave. in Hawthorne.  It’s taken over a year of planning and hard work along with some extremely generous community members to make this dream a reality.  It would not have happened without the support of so many people and we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts!

We will be having an Open House on Saturday, August 6th from 11am-2pm.  Please stay tuned for more details.
