Dallas is a kind, confident, and multi-talented member of the Mychal’s Café team. He first came to Mychal’s Learning Place as a volunteer and quickly earned a spot on staff. While he enjoys back-of-house tasks like washing dishes, he’s also growing his skills as a Prep Cook—chopping veggies and eyeing a future as a line cook to support his team and gain life skills.
Dallas has worked at other places—including an aerospace facility—but says Mychal’s Café is his favorite. “Working here makes me feel great. I feel appreciated, and I really love it here.” When asked why, he said, “Definitely the people. The money is good too, it’s great, but it’s not my favorite part. I would say it’s the relationships that I form with the people that I work with.”
Mychal’s Café manager, Paloma, shared, “At first, Dallas didn’t want to work the burrito station,” adding that it may have been perceived as too overwhelming. Shortly thereafter, she says, “He took the reigns and handled that station like a champ! He was calm and confident, and really stepped up to help the team”.
Outside the kitchen, Dallas enjoys playing computer games, poker, and spending time outdoors. He’s a certified Eagle Scout who loves camping and can build a fire from scratch. And with all his skills and heart, it’s no surprise that his dream job is to be President of the United States—he’s got our vote!
